Irish actors Dervla Kirwan and Andrew Scott are to star opposite Christopher Eccleston and Ewen Bremner in a new BBC thriller series called The Fuse. The four-part series tells the story of Daniel Demoys (Eccleston), a corrupt council official who wakes up after a drunken night and realises he could be responsible for a murder.
However, a "dramatic act of redemption" leads to Demoys becoming a public hero and he embarks on a campaign to become mayor. Kirwan will play his wife, Alex, with Scott playing Dalien Bevan, the detective who becomes very interested in Demoys.
Eccleston said of The Fuse: "Bill Gallagher has written a fantastic four- episode drama about obsession, addiction and redemption."
Gallagher added: "I liked the idea of starting a story with a man who finds himself in a self-induced hell, and following him as he tries to make amends for the harm he has done. He happens to be a politician, so he has a chance to pay for his sins in his community."
Filming has begun on The Fuse and it will be shown in spring 2012.
