Andrew Scott is about to appear in Aristocrats by Brian Friel at the Lyttelton theatre. The 28-year-old actor comes from Ireland himself and is excited to be performing in a play which deals with Irish history.
“Aristocrats is a fascinating play,” says Andrew. “It’s written in the seventies, in an Ireland struggling with the old order and the life of a landed family but this time it isn’t the Anglo-Irish who are in the line of fire, it’s Catholic aristocrats who own the local grand house.”
Andrew grew up in Dublin, where his family still live, and started acting at the ages of 17. He worked at the Abbey and the Gate theatres and won the Spirit of Best Actor Award for his performances there.
Now 28, he has been in London for five years and added theatre credits at the Barbican, Tricycle and Sheffield Crucible theatres. He won an Olivier award in 2005 for his part in the Rob Evans’ drama A Girl in a Car with a Man at the Royal Court.
“It gets you noticed and I value it. To me it was impressive that the Olivier got so much notice for a play presented at the Court Upstairs.”
For the future, Andrew would love to travel and experience the arts scene in different countries around the world.
“After this run, in about three months, I’m thinking of a break and some travel. I’m happy to go anywhere to work.”
